Carrie Underwood‘s Denim & Rhinestones has entered Billboard’s Top Country Albums at No.2 to become her (perfect) tenth Top 3 title on that chart, out of ten releases. Meanwhile, the set arrives at No.10 on the Billboard 200 and No.4 on Top Album Sales.
Billboard Country Update reports that the new release had equivalent album sales of 31,000. It’s now some 16 and a half years since Underwood, as reigning American Idol champion, first appeared on Top Country Albums in December 2005, at No.1, with Some Hearts. That debut album went on to a mighty 27 weeks at the top of the chart.
The first single from Denim & Rhinestones, “Ghost Story,” continues its progress on both of Billboard’s main track charts. On Hot Country Songs, it rises 15-12 in its 13th week, and on Top Country Airplay, it’s up 19-16 in its 14th week. The new album, much praised by media, was described by countryswag.com as “a high-energy project with a nostalgic 90s country feel.”
After summer festival dates, Underwood’s US tour with special guest Jimmie Allen is due to start on October 15 in Greenville, South Carolina, and will run into March 2023, concluding on the 17th of that month in Seattle. Her recent headlining appearance at the 49th annual CMA Fest, on Nashville’s Nissan Stadium stage, will be broadcast on ABC on August 3.
She’s also due to perform on the July 30 edition of WSM-AM’s Grand Ole Opry show, which will mark the 50th anniversary of the Opry induction of one of Underwood’s forebears among great female country stars, Barbara Mandrell. The Californian vocalist is known for a full 20 years of chart records including such country No.1s as “Sleeping Single In A Double Bed,” “(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don’t Want To Be Right,” and “One Of A Kind Pair If Fools.”
