Metallica Performance Featuring Beatles, Ozzy Covers Gets Release

Back in 2014, Metallica performed a special acoustic set of covers, including classics by The Beatles and Ozzy Osbourne. Now, the show is finally available via the band’s webstore.

The concert was a charity gig paying tribute to Ozzy and benefiting the MusicCares MAP fund, which assists musicians who are recovering from addiction. The benefit happens annually in Los Angeles, which each show honoring an artist that has helped support musicians in recovery. The 2014 event featured Metallica’s set, as well as a handful of performances by Ozzy. For Ozzy’s set, the Prince of Darkness was joined by Jane’s Addiction’s Dave Navarro, Guns ‘N Roses’ Slash, Red Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and singer Beth Hart.

Metallica kicked off the show at L.A.’s Club Nokia with five covers. James Hetfield did a solo performance of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven” (which is not included on the release) and the rest of Metallica joined him for the other four songs: Rare Earth’s “I Just Want to Celebrate,” Deep Purple’s “When a Blind Man Cries,” The Beatles’ “In My Life” and Ozzy’s “Diary of a Madman,” in that order.

“All net proceeds from the sale of downloads of this show will be donated to the MusiCares MAP Fund,” according to Metallica. To purchase the set, go here. Watch some footage from the charity gig below.
