Ringo Starr’s ‘Peace And Love’ Message To Go Global And Into Orbit

Ringo Starr’s annual Peace & Love birthday event will take place on July 7, his 82nd birthday, when friends, family and fellow stars will gather in Los Angeles. At noon local time, they will deliver his traditional “peace and love” exclamation, and this year it will travel not only around the world but into orbit, with the help of Artemis Music Space Network, through the International Space Station (ISS).

Ringo and his wife Barbara Starkey will be joined by current members of his All-Starr Band, Steve Lukather, Edgar Winter, Colin Hay, Warren Ham, and Gregg Bissonette. Also taking part will be friends Benmont Tench, Jim Keltner, Richard Marx, Matt Sorum, Ed Begley Jr, Linda Perry, Diane Warren, Roy Jr, and Alex Orbison. The band have recently completed a long US tour, with more dates to follow in September and October, including two in Mexico.

Starr will give the signal at noon to the Artemis Mission Control Center in Houston, Texas to beam his message and music into orbit around the earth, passing over many countries and much of the Earth’s population and beaming messages of peace and love across the planet while traveling to distant stars. The two pieces of music to be beamed will be his 2021 single “Let’s Change The World” and “Star Song.” This will be preceded by tribute performances by musicians including Langhorne Slim and Sawyer Fredericks,.

So far a total of 26 celebration events have been confirmed around the world, beginning in Sydney, Australia, where Karl Stefanovic of Today will host the first noon “Peace & Love” event of the day. This is followed by events in Tokyo and Osaka (Japan), Moscow (Russia), Athens (Greece), Ticino (Switzerland), Halle (Germany), Barcelona and Madrid (Spain), Venice (Italy), London (England), Buenos Aires and Chascomús (Argentina), Sao Paulo (Brazil) Lima (Peru), Panama City (Panama) San Salvador (El Salvador), Guatemala City (Guatemala), San Jose (Costa Rica), and in the US in New York, Interlochen, MI (Interlochen Center for the Arts), Cleveland, OH (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum), Fairfield, IA (Marharshi University), and Los Angeles, California.

Ringo usually invites fans to join him in person in L.A., but this year city ordinances dictate that the gathering cannot be made public. This year also marks the first “Peace and Love” celebration in South Africa, to take place at noon local time in Yeoville, Johannesburg at the Friday Hartley Shelter.

Leading up to the day and on to July 10, one of the event sponsors, The Beatles Channel on SiriusXM, is to air special programming to celebrate Ringo’s birthday. Starbucks, one of the event’s amplifiers, will feature a special Ringo Playlist in over 10,000 of its stores, and willl share a special “peace and love” message from Ringo with its customers at noon at participating locations.
