Queen Elizabeth II Called Upon to Honor Black Sabbath

Queen Elizabeth II has been called upon by members of the British Parliament to recognize Black Sabbath for their services to music.

Khalid Mahmood, a Labour Party Member representing Birmingham where Black Sabbath formed, shared the open letter via Twitter. The letter is also signed by six other members of Parliament and two members of Birmingham’s City Council.

Mahmood’s letter reads, in part, “Following the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, which took place in my Birmingham Perry Barr constituency, I have been inundated with requests that Black Sabbath be recognized for its services to muisc and to the city of Birmingham.”

The letter notes, “For all their global fame, they have kept strong links with Birmingham, demonstrated by their barnstorming surprise performance at the closing ceremony of Commonwealth Games, which was closed by His Royal Highness Prince Edward The Earl of Wessex.”

Queen Elizabeth II or any royal reps have yet to respond to this request.

Black Sabbath have been top of mind for many fans following the surprise performance from Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi at the Commonwealth Games. As previously reported, Osbourne’s performance with Iommi was the singer’s first since performing with Post Malone at the 2019 American Music Awards.

Osbourne and Iommi recently reunited on “Degradation Rules,” a track on Osbourne’s upcoming studio album Patient Number 9. In addition to Iommi, guests on the album include Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Chad Smith, Robert Trujillo, Duff McKagan, Zakk Wylde, Josh Homme and Mike McCready.

Patient Number 9 comes out on September 9 and is available of pre-save/pre-order here.
