Red Hot Chili Peppers are the latest artists to be honored with the Global Icon Award at the upcoming 2022 MTV Video Music Awards.
The VMAs Twitter account announced the honor adding the band will be performing at the award show for the first time in two decades. The Global Icon Award made its debut at the VMAs last year. Foo Fighters were the first recipients of the honor.
The 2022 VMAs air on Sunday, August 28 at 8 PM on MTV.

In other Chili Peppers news: The band dropped their latest single “Tippa My Tongue” last week. The track is the first preview from their upcoming studio album Return of the Dream Canteen.
The new RHCP album is the second LP from the band in 2022 following the release of Unlimited Love in April. This is also the second studio album from the band since the return of John Frusciante. The guitarist rejoined the Chili Peppers in 2019 after previously leaving the group in 2009. His previous tenures with the band ran from 1988-1992 and 1998-2009.
Return of the Dream Canteen is due out October 14 and is currently available for pre-order digitally here, while physical copies (vinyl, CD and cassette) are available for pre-order at Music.RedHotChiliPeppers.com.
