The Offspring sent well wishes to former drummer Josh Freese on his new gig with the Foo Fighters.

The band shared across their social media channels, “We’ve very happy for, and proud of our friend Josh Freese on joining Foo Fighters. Well deserved!”

Freese was never an official member of The Offspring. However, he served as their touring drummer and appeared on four of their albums: 2003’s Splinter, 2008’s Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace, 2012’s Days Go By and 2021’s Let the Bad Times Roll.

Freese was unveiled as the new drummer for the Foo Fighters during a special livestream event on May 21. Freese is an accomplished session drummer. He’s appeared on a wide variety of releases for a very diverse roster of artists. Among those artists are Bruce Springsteen, Slash, Miley Cyrus, Sting and many more. Additionally, he’s been a member of A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails and Guns N’ Roses. Currently, he’s also a member of The Vandals and Devo.

There’s a good chance you’ve heard a recording or two (or ten) that features Freese’s drumming. Keep scrolling for a list of songs he’s played on.

Josh Freese: 14 Songs the New Foo Fighters Drummer Played On

Josh Freese is a noted session drummer that’s also currently a member of the punk band The Vandals and new wave icons Devo. Now, he’s added a third band to that short list: Foo Fighters.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band lost their longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins in March 2022 when he died suddenly at age 50. Since Hawkins’ death, the Foos were silent for 17 months about who would be their new drummer. They broke their silence on May 21 when Freese was unveiled as the new Foo drummer during a special livestream event.

Freese’s career spans five decades, and his list of credits is as impressive as it is lengthy. For those that may not be super familiar with his work, here are just 14 songs Freese has played on.
