Pearl Jam Covers Cheap Trick in Chicago

Pearl Jam had a little surprise for fans at their September 5 show in Chicago: A cover of a Cheap Trick classic.

The band closed their 24-song set at the United Center with a rousing performance of “Surrender.” The track is from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band’s 1978 studio album Heaven Tonight. Cheap Trick, of course, was founded in Rockford, Ill., which is about 90 miles northwest of Chicago.

There’s certainly a unique buoyancy to the fan-shot video below, especially during the chorus.

 

Pearl Jam is currently on a mini-U.S. tour that ends later this month. Below is a list of the remaining show dates.
