Meshell Ndegeocello Shares New Single And Live Video ‘The Atlantiques’

Meshell Ndegeocello has released a new single “The Atlantiques,” a bonus track from her acclaimed Blue Note debut The Omnichord Real Book, which was released in June to wide critical acclaim.

Fueled by an insistent Afrobeat groove, “The Atlantiques” features contributions from guitarist Jeff Parker, alto saxophonist Josh Johnson, and vocalist Anaïs Maviel. The track was released alongside a video of Meshell’s band performing “The Atlantiques” live in the studio.

Meshell will be continuing to tour behind the album’s release this fall with upcoming shows in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Denver, Atlanta, Nashville, Pittsburgh, and more. Check out the full list of dates below.

The Omnichord Real Book is a visionary and deeply jazz-influenced album that tapped into a broad spectrum of Meshell’s musical roots and marked the start of a new chapter in her trailblazing career. The album was produced by Josh Johnson and features a wide range of guest artists including Jason Moran, Ambrose Akinmusire, Joel Ross, Jeff Parker, Brandee Younger, Julius Rodriguez, Mark Guiliana, Cory Henry, Joan As Police Woman, Thandiswa, and others.

“Realness is a root position in The Omnichord Real Book, Meshell Ndegeocello’s expansive yet interior new album,” wrote Nate Chinen for NPR. “Over the 30 years since the release of her landmark debut, Ndegeocello has made truth-telling her business, along with a sound and style fed by many tributaries of Black music. The Omnichord Real Book is a coolly transfixing album — her first in five years, and her first as a leader for Blue Note.

“Ndegeocello’s music reliably imbibes from that inner world, creating a nearly self-contained universe,” continues Chinen. “Her process on The Omnichord Real Book involves opening it up to some trusted interlopers, inviting them to alter the atmosphere.”
