Papadosio is a five-piece rock/jam band from Athens, Ohio, now based out of Asheville, North Carolina. Their music is a blend of prog rock, livetronica, jazz, and jam. It’s almost a Radiohead meets Tool kind of vibe.
The dynamic quintet features Mike Healy on drums and Rob McConnell on Bass. Also, brothers Sam & Billy Brouse on keyboard and vocals and Anthony Thogmartin on guitar and vocals. The band members met at a bar named O’Hooleys in Athens, Ohio. They would attend a weekly open jam there each week, which hosted all the best musicians in town for a night of musical improv. This once-a-week jam evolved for the fellas eventually spawning the band we now know as Papadosio.
Healy says the band is influenced by everyone from Pink Floyd to the Beatles to Nine Inch Nails to the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan and beyond.
Billy Brouse describes the meaning behind the name Papadosio as “That thing when you see a cloud that you really like but can’t immediately describe it but it comes to you later”. Interesting, right?
Papadosio Live
Papadosio has released eight studio albums. The most recent of which is To Live A Making, featuring 17 new tracks, released in September of this year. They tour extensively. You can see them at major festivals such as Secret Dreams and Subterranea. They had a headlining gig at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado.
The band’s live shows are known for their high energy, improvisation, and cool visual imagery. I first saw Papadosio at Brooklyn Bowl here in Philadelphia last year, and they were incredible. They have such a cool mix of genres and the ability to blend them together seamlessly.
Papadosio is bringing their “To Live a Making” tour to the Ardmore Music Hall on Thursday October 12th, with special guest Beard-o-Bees, the solo project of Jesse Miller of Lotus.
