Ariana Grande has announced her highly anticipated seventh full length album, eternal sunshine, to be released on March 8 via Republic Records.

Last Friday, Grande released the album’s lead single “yes, and?” – written and produced by the singer, along with Max Martin, and Ilya Salmanzadeh. The song was accompanied by an official video directed by Christian Breslauer, which intentionally channels Paula Abdul’s 1988 clip for “Cold Hearted” — the buzz around the song was so strong on Friday that Abdul was trending on Twitter for much of the day.


“WOW! Waking up to see Ariana Grande pay homage to ‘Cold Hearted’ in her new music video ‘yes, and?’ was EVERYTHING!!!,” Abdul wrote on social media. “What an honor! What was your favorite part of the video? I love you, Ari!!!”

The song debuted at at the top spot on the Spotify Global Chart, capturing her biggest Spotify streaming debut to date. In addition, the single secured the No. 1 spot on Apple Music Top 100 Global, and the official music video claimed the top spot on YouTube Trending for Music.

Upon release, “yes, and?” was met with an outpouring of support from critics and fans everywhere, including Billboard, who said “Inspired by late ’80s dance-pop production, the catchy track is made all the better by Grande’s unshakeable confidence and comfort in her own skin.” Nylon also said ““Yes, and?” is a banger,” while Paper added “It’s sleek, colorful and hooky.”

Elsewhere, V Magazine described the song as “A classic Ariana Grande hit with tongue-in-cheek lyrics, disco-inspired sonic influences, and a house beat that is sure to get stuck in your head instantaneously” and an impressed Variety said the song was “a radio and dancefloor-friendly re-entry for the singer that still has a tough edge.”
