Bob Marley’s ‘One Love’ Wins Best Movie At 2024 BET Awards

The film One Love won Best Movie at the 2024 BET Awards. Made by Tuff Gong and Paramount Pictures, the picture follows reggae star Bob Marley in and out of the spotlight. Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the movie stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as Marley, Lashana Lynch as Rita Marley, and James Norton as Chris Blackwell, who founded Island Records.

The movie was a smash success at the box office, and currently stands as the fifth highest grossing music biopic in the US. First released in theaters on February 14, 2024, the film is now available on streaming, DVD, and Blu-Ray.

In other Marley news, this month, Island/UMe unveiled the Exodus Limited Edition LP, to celebrate the release of One Love. Released on June 7, it features the album in its original cover design as seen in the film. It also features an exclusive 10″ LP of rare bonus tracks, and an essay by Jamaican historian Herbie Miller, who calls Exodus “a timeless document that publicly reveals the contemplations and reflections on the life of one of the 20th century’s most revered artists and revolutionaries.”

Island/UMe have also recently shared a new video for Marley’s “Punky Reggae Party,” directed by Cameroonian graphic artist Maxime Manga. It also shared an official YouTube release for “Turn Your Lights Down Low,” featuring Lauryn Hill. The latter song peaked at No. 1 on the U.K. R&B Chart. It was also nominated for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals at the 2001 Grammy Awards. The video features Marley’s son, Rohan.
