Louis Armstrong Greatest Hits Collection Coming To Vinyl

The first Louis Armstrong greatest hits collection to see a vinyl release in 40 years is coming this fall.

Wonderful World, which is out in September on Verve Records, compiles 13 of the iconic artist’s biggest songs, including “What A Wonderful World,” “A Kiss To Build A Dream On,” and “Hello, Dolly!” Two classic duets with Ella Fitzgerald, “Cheek to Cheek” and “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” also appear on the tracklist. The record is now available for pre-order in both physical and digital formats, including an exclusive “Skies of Blue” vinyl variant.

Over five decades after its release, “What a Wonderful World” currently boasts nearly 1.4 billion global streams, and has been certified 5x platinum by the RIAA. “53 years after he passed away, Louis Armstrong is having a moment,” Ricky Riccardi, Director of Research Collections for the Louis Armstrong House Museum, shares in a statement. “These particular songs are especially popular in the current streaming age, as Armstrong regularly gets tens of millions of streams per month, an incredible number for an artist born in 1901—those would even be great numbers for someone born in 2001, too! All of this can be summed up simply by stating that the man they called Pops still remains Tops!”

The announcement of Wonderful World—which arrives just two days before what would be Armstrong’s 123rd birthday on August 4th—follows the release of Louis in London, a 13-track recording of Armstrong’s legendary 1968 session recorded live at the BBC.
