Aerosmith Celebrate ‘Pump’ Anniversary With Music And Merch

Pump, the classic Aerosmith album featuring smash hits “Love In An Elevator” and “Janie’s Got A Gun,” is celebrating its 35th anniversary in style. The band is releasing a limited edition vinyl reissue, along with a bonus 7-inch single, as well as a whole host of new merchandise. The LP officially ships on October 4 and all merchandise is available for pre-order now.

This newest, limited edition reissue is numbered 1-1989 in honor of the album’s debut year, and is pressed on Andromeda purple vinyl. The bonus 7-inch single, pressed on grape-colored vinyl, features songs “Deuces Are Wild” and “Ain’t Enough.” Other merchandise available for sale includes T-shirts, crop tops, a 1973-style work shirt, a hoodie, enamel pins, fuzzy car dice, air fresheners, mugs, can coolers, and, of course, Pump on CD.

Originally released in 1989, Pump remains one of Aerosmith’s best-selling albums, being certified septuple platinum by 1995. All four of the album’s singles, including “What It Takes” and “The Other Side” made it into the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, and the second single “Janie’s Got A Gun” earned the band their first Grammy Award, for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.

Interestingly, Aerosmith found an unexpected guest while recording the album over three decades ago. The band ended up recording in the same studio where Mötley Crüe’s Mick Mars happened to be recording next door. His amps were so loud that they (faintly) bled into the background of Pump. “Steven Tyler was doing vocals with producer Bruce Fairbairn next door, and I remember them yelling at me, ‘You’ve gotta turn your stuff down, Mick! It’s leaking into our vocals.’ I didn’t turn down, though. I just told them, ‘Hey, that’s the way I play – loud,’” Mars recalled to Guitar World in 2022. “So yeah, I’m all over the record they were doing. Somewhere in the mix, you’ll hear me.”
