Digital Noise Mag was excited to attend Briston Maroney’s dynamic performance during the second leg of his Ultrapure Tour part 2 at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington, NC, on September 24, 2024. Location had a beautiful backdrop of trees and a serene lake, the outdoor venue created an intimate atmosphere that perfectly matched his heartfelt music.

The 26-year-old Knoxville, TN native has made a name for himself in the indie rock scene, with four EPs and two studio albums to his credit, along with many more projects on the way. From the moment he hit the stage, he showcased his impressive range as a performer, blending fresh interpretations of older songs with newer hits to highlight his artistic growth.

Opening with the hit song “Body,” a favorite from his 2023 album Ultrapure, he instantly connected with the crowd. His raspy yet melodic voice brought his lyrics to life, resonating on multiple levels, especially themes of youth, love, and self-discovery. The setlist was a well-curated mix of fan favorites and new material, including songs like “Small Talk,” “Sinkin’,” and, of course, the ultimate favorite “Freakin’ Out on the Interstate,” which had the audience singing along. The newer tracks, like “Spring” and “Sunshine,” featured rich guitar riffs and groovy rhythms that showcased his evolving sound.

A memorable moment of the night came when he jumped behind the drum set to play “Sink;Swim,” dedicating it to a devoted fan who had his lyrics tattooed on her arm, making the evening even more special.

As the night continued, he impressed everyone with a variety of songs from both Ultrapure and his debut album, Sunflower, as well as selections from earlier EPs. Each performance was filled with genuine emotion, drawing the audience into the experience through his creative choices and variations on the original sound.

He ended the show with an encore featuring “Bottle Rocket” and “June,” leaving fans with lasting memories of a powerful performance that showcased his incredible talent and the emotional depth of his music. The evening was an engaging experience that left everyone eager to see what projects he will create next!
