As part of the rollout for the new The Pre-Party (Extended) EP, two previously unheard Juice WRLD tracks have been shared: the minimal, melodic “Both Ways” and the dark, booming “Cavalier.” “Both Ways” comes with a video starring and co-directed by Juice’s friend and collaborator Trippie Redd along with DotComNirvan.
“Both Ways” is a collaboration with Juice’s right-hand producer Nick Mira alongside Pharaoh Vice (iann dior, The Kid LAROI, Lil Peep), while “Cavalier” is special in a different way—fans can still find footage online of Juice recording the song during a 2019 Instagram Live session. The track was produced by another familiar face, 808 Mafia member Purps (Migos, Chief Keef), with Ian Francis.
The Pre-Party (Extended) follows The Pre-Party, which was released at 9am on September 9th. “999” is a cherished number among Juice’s fandom that symbolizes the concept of flipping a bad situation into a positive one. The Pre-Party featured two more posthumous tracks, “World Tour (Aquafina)” and “Lightyears” featuring Young Thug. Before that came December’s “Lace It” featuring Eminem with production by benny blanco.
When the track with Eminem was released, Juice WRLD’s mother Carmela Wallace shared in a statement, “I can recall Jarad playing Eminem’s music on repeat at home because he was a huge fan. This is a bittersweet moment for me; I am happy that Jarad had a chance to make music with someone he admired and sad that he cannot be here to take in the moment; Jarad left us way too soon.”
In April 2020, Wallace announced the Live Free 999 Fund, which receives support from Grade A and Interscope alongside individual donors. Live Free 999 seeks to honor the legacy of Ms. Wallace’ son by supporting young people struggling with anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. The Fund’s website shares their mission to “rid the stigma and normalize the conversation around mental illness and substance use disorders.”
