Bernie Taupin To Be Honored At Hollywood Music in Media Awards

Songwriter extraordinaire Bernie Taupin is set to receive the Outstanding Career Achievement Award at the 15th annual Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) held on November 20th, 2024. The ceremony honors original music in film, TV, video games, trailers, commercial advertisements, documentaries, and special programs.

Past HMMA Career Achievement Award recipients include Kenny Loggins, Smokey Robinson, Diane Warren, Earth Wind & Fire, and more.

Taupin is best known for his longstanding songwriting partnership with Elton John. He collaborated with John to create an incredible number of hits, including, but not limited to, “Your Song,” “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going to Be a Long, Long Time),” “Tiny Dancer,” “Candle in the Wind” and “Bennie and the Jets.” The duo were awarded the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song in March of this year, and Taupin was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November 2023.

He is also responsible for co-writing two Billboard Hot 100 number one hits: Heart’s “These Dreams” and Starship’s “We Built This City.” He won a Grammy for his work on the Willie Nelson and Lee Ann Womack collaboration “Mendocino County Line,” and a Golden Globe for composing Emmylou Harris’ “A Love That Will Never Grow Old,” from the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack.

A documentary about Taupin’s life and career is currently in the works. The documentary is being directed by Matthew Miele (Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion) and will feature newly commissioned interviews and archival content. The team will follow Bernie on a trip back to his hometown of Lincolnshire, where he’ll explore the roots of his creativity and the origins of some of his biggest hits. Elton John will, of course, be interviewed, alongside a collection of artists including Brandi Carlile, Alice CooperJames Hetfield, Annie Lennox, Lulu, Gary Oldman, Ringo Starr, and Pete Townshend.

Tickets for the Hollywood Music in Media Awards ceremony are available now. More information can be found at hmmaawards.com.
