Jack Black and Jack White officially joined forces on Saturday Night Live last night, April 4, delivering a high-energy "crossover" performance to open the show. The duo, jokingly referred to as "Jack Zebra," kicked off the monologue with a revamped version of the White Stripes’ iconic anthem, "Seven Nation Army." The performance served as a celebration of Black’s induction into the Five-Timers Club and featured the two stars spoofing the ubiquitous "sporting-event" version of the track.
Beyond the opening collaboration, Jack White performed his two brand-new singles, “Derecho Demonico” and “G.O.D. and the Broken Ribs,” which were surprise-released just one day prior. Backed by a band including drummer Patrick Keeler, bassist Dominic Davis, and keyboardist Bobby Emmett, this marked White’s sixth time as a musical guest. Black and White also appeared together in multiple sketches throughout the night, including a musical parody involving a group of husbands performing a choreographed version of "Carry On My Wayward Son." Following the broadcast, White is scheduled to continue his New York City run with an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this Tuesday.

Daron Malakian, the guitarist and vocalist for System Of A Down and Scars On Broadway, shared a blunt political message on social media yesterday, April 3. In a video posted to his Instagram, Malakian flipped off the camera while echoing the lyrical themes of System Of A Down’s 2005 anti-war hit "B.Y.O.B." He captioned the clip by calling out presidents and politicians who start wars but "don't send their sons, daughters, and loved ones to the battlefield," adding the iconic question: “Why do they always send the poor?!!!!”

Fans at the House of Blues in Anaheim were treated to a nostalgic surprise last night, April 3, as Korn bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu took the stage with Breaking In A Sequence. While Fieldy has been on a hiatus from Korn since 2021, he dusted off his signature slap-bass style to perform the pioneering nü-metal classics "Clown" and "Got The Life." The performance marked a rare public appearance for the bassist, who has previously noted a lack of communication with his longtime Korn bandmates.

The evening also served as a mini-reunion for early 2000s rock fans. Breaking In A Sequence, which features ex-(hed)p.e. drummer Ben “B.C.” Vaught, was also joined by former (hed)p.e. guitarist Wes Geer for a cover of the track "Ground." The show took place just as Breaking In A Sequence released their new single, "Meant To Be." While the band originally featured founding Korn drummer David Silveria, yesterday’s set list focused on celebrating the genre's roots with Fieldy and Geer providing a look back at the height of the nü-metal era.

Flea has shared his emotional reaction to the new documentary chronicling the life of the late Red Hot Chili Peppers founding guitarist Hillel Slovak. In a recent social media post, the bassist revealed that finally watching the film, titled The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers: Our Brother, Hillel, "filled my heart right to the top." While Flea admitted the viewing came with a "good dose of lifelong melancholy," he expressed deep gratitude that the project exists to show the world how much Slovak continues to mean to the band.

The documentary, which is currently streaming on Netflix, arrived on March 20 and has sparked conversation within the fan base for its use of AI to recreate Slovak's voice. Despite initial reports that the band had distanced themselves from the project, Flea’s public endorsement marks a full embrace of the film's tribute to his childhood friend. Slovak, who performed on the band's first two albums and the landmark The Uplift Mofo Party Plan, passed away in 1988, but his influence remains a cornerstone of the group's identity nearly four decades later.

The "Power of the Jacks" takes over Studio 8H tonight, April 4, as Jack Black returns to host Saturday Night Live with Jack White serving as the musical guest. In a series of new promos, the two legendary performers—who previously collaborated as "Jack Gray" on the 2019 Tenacious D track "Don't Blow It, Kage"—exchanged jokes regarding their matching first names and contrasting surnames. Joined by cast member Marcello Hernandez, Black declared the Passover and Easter weekend the "two most metal holidays of all time.

"This appearance marks a major milestone for Black, who officially joins the Five-Timers Club tonight. While there is no equivalent club for musical guests, White is making his sixth appearance on the show. Fans are also anticipating a live performance of White's brand-new singles, “G.O.D. and the Broken Ribs” and “Derecho Demonico,” which were surprise-released yesterday. Given their history of collaboration, speculation is high that the two Jacks may team up for a sketch or a musical performance during the broadcast.

More than two decades after her viral 2004 Saturday Night Live mishap, Ashlee Simpson says she is finally ready to return to the Studio 8H stage. The singer recently found redemption as “Galaxy Girl,” the newly crowned winner of The Masked Singer Season 14. During the competition’s clues and subsequent exit interviews, Simpson addressed the public humiliation she faced at age 20, which she once feared would define her forever.

“Now it’s something I can laugh about,” Simpson told Entertainment Weekly following her unmasking. She noted that the experience shaped her into the person she is today and that she “would definitely go back” to SNL if given the opportunity. This renewed interest in performing follows her success on the masked singing show, where she impressed judges and audiences with her vocals while concealed in an elaborate galaxy-themed costume. Simpson also confirmed that she is currently working on new music, marking a significant professional comeback as she moves past the “technical difficulties” of her early career.

Wolfgang Van Halen brought some April Fools’ Day humor to the stage during Mammoth WVH’s April 1st concert in Cincinnati, Ohio. After addressing the crowd and hinting that the band might perform a song from the Van Halen catalog, Wolfgang instead launched into a rock arrangement of Rick Astley’s 1987 hit “Never Gonna Give You Up.” The prank was complete with the original music video playing on the screen behind the band as they performed the heavily-memed track.

Wolfgang, who has consistently stated that Mammoth remains a vehicle for his own creative output and will not feature his father’s music, doubled down on the joke by playing the song two more times after shouting “April Fools!” to the audience. While he famously made an exception to his “no Van Halen” rule for the Taylor Hawkins tribute shows in 2022, this latest stunt served as a lighthearted reminder of his commitment to his solo path. Mammoth is currently preparing to join Bush as the opener for their upcoming spring North American tour.

Evanescence appears ready to break their four-year studio silence, sharing a cryptic teaser video across their social media platforms yesterday. The clip features a brief snippet of what sounds like a new track accompanied by the phrase “Who Will You Follow.” Fans won’t have to wait long for the full reveal, as the video concludes by pointing toward a premiere date of next Friday, April 10.

This new material marks the first significant step toward the band’s sixth studio album, which vocalist Amy Lee previously hinted would arrive sometime in 2026. During a December interview with KROQ, Lee mentioned she was in the final stages of writing lyrics for the project, which will serve as the follow-up to 2021’s The Bitter Truth. While the band has released various soundtrack collaborations in the interim, this upcoming drop is expected to be the lead single from their next major era.

Juliette Lewis has gone viral after a chance musical encounter in Central Park was captured on video and shared on her Instagram. The clip shows the Yellowjackets star and Juliette and the Licks frontwoman approaching a local busker whose social media handle is @izzetcankarakoc and joining him for a soulful, acoustic cover of the Creedence Clearwater Revival classic "Have You Ever Seen the Rain."

The street performer admitted in his own post that he didn't initially recognize the Academy Award nominee, even asking for her name mid-performance before realizing he was singing with a rock icon. Lewis, known for her raw and energetic stage presence, appeared to be enjoying a casual day in New York City when the "only in New York" moment occurred.

Juliette Lewis is currently starring as Magenta in the 2026 Broadway revival of The Rocky Horror Show at Studio 54, with performances running from March 26 through June 21, 2026

U2 has marked Good Friday, April 3, 2026, with the surprise release of a new six-song EP titled Easter Lily. The digital-only project serves as a reflective companion to February's Ash Wednesday release, Days of Ash. While the previous EP was described by the band as a reaction to global chaos, Easter Lily is a more personal and introspective set exploring themes of friendship, loss, and renewal. The collection was produced by Jacknife Lee and includes a closing soundscape, "COEXIST (I Will Bless The Lord At All Times?)," created in collaboration with Brian Eno.

The EP opens with "Song for Hal," a tribute to the band's longtime friend and music producer Hal Willner, who passed away in 2020. Accompanying the music is a digital edition of the band's fanzine, Propaganda, featuring sleeve notes and a conversation between Bono and Franciscan friar Richard Rohr.

Russian authorities have officially indicted Pussy Riot co-founder Nadya Tolokonnikova, adding her name to the federal wanted list. According to reports from Russian news agencies, the indictment centers on charges related to the "offending of religious feelings," a criminal offense that has frequently been used to target the feminist punk collective since their 2012 protest in Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. This latest legal action follows years of mounting pressure on Tolokonnikova, who has remained a vocal critic of the Russian government and its ongoing invasion of Ukraine
While Tolokonnikova currently resides outside of Russia, the indictment carries significant legal weight, as it would likely lead to her immediate arrest should she enter the country or a nation with a reciprocal extradition treaty. In addition to the criminal charges, she was previously designated as a "foreign agent" by the Russian Ministry of Justice in 2021. Despite the legal threats, Tolokonnikova has continued her activism through music and digital art, recently using NFT sales to raise millions of dollars for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

Scarlett Johansson shared a surprising piece of her musical history during an appearance on The Colbert Questionert this Thursday, revealing that her very first concert was a Cypress Hill show. The performance took place at the now-defunct Roseland Ballroom in New York City. Johansson recalled the night fondly, admitting she was "so high" that she doesn't entirely remember who she went with, but she vividly remembers the band rolling and passing a massive blunt—which she described as being the size of a "Blimpie sub"—to the crowd.

"I’m still buzzing from it, man," the actress joked while reflecting on the atmosphere of the show. The trip down memory lane comes as Johansson prepares for high-profile roles in Mike Flanagan’s upcoming take on The Exorcist and Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II. Meanwhile, Cypress Hill is currently touring throughout North America and Europe for the remainder of 2026, continuing the legacy that made such a lasting impression on the young actress years ago.
