Irish-Norwegian duo Secret Garden have announced a 30th-anniversary edition of their 1995 debut album, Songs From A Secret Garden.
Combining folk, classical and Celtic traditional music, Songs From A Secret Garden is perhaps best known for its track “Nocturne,” which won the Eurovision Song Contest for Norway in 1995. Another album track, “Adagio,” was also featured prominently in Wong-Kar Wai’s acclaimed film 2046.
The freshly mixed new version of Songs From A Secret Garden features a special remastered version of the track—the album is due out May 14th, which will mark 30 years to the day from the date “Nocturne” secured its big win at the ESC.
The big year of milestones aligns nicely with one of Løvland’s own: his 70th birthday. Not only famed for his work with Secret Garden, Løvland composed the song “You Raise Me Up,” which has been covered by over 125 artists since its 2001 release, including versions by Josh Groban and Westlife.
Over a thirty year career, Secret Garden has brought in over three billion worldwide streams and five million individual album sales, supporting countless tours across the world. The duo currently has 113 platinum certifications to their name from multiple global territories. They released their most recent record, Secret Winter, in December 2024.
“I think the music has grown with us and that we’ve grown with the music. We have never had focus on re-inventing our style,” the duo told KoreaTimes in 2019. “We’ve always stayed true to the idea of melodies and our Norwegian and Irish identity.”
