ABBA’s ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’ Enters Spotify’s Billion Streams Club

ABBA is still the life of the party! Their 1979 hit “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” has officially joined Spotify’s Billions Club, celebrating songs with over one billion streams. This marks ABBA’s second song to reach this milestone, following their iconic “Dancing Queen.”

Originally recorded to promote their North American and European tours, “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” was the only single from their 1979 album, Greatest Hits Vol. 2. It later appeared in reissues of their sixth studio album, Voulez-Vous. The song became a disco favorite, topping charts in countries like Belgium, Denmark, Finland, and Ireland. Although it wasn’t officially released in the U.S. and Canada, it still found its way to dance floors during the waning days of the Studio 54 era. Surprisingly, it also didn’t get a single release in Sweden but still reached No. 16 thanks to import sales.

The song has left a lasting impact, inspiring many artists. The A-Teens released a teen-pop version in 1999, which became a top-10 hit in Sweden. Madonna famously asked ABBA for permission to sample it for her hit “Hung Up,” which became one of her biggest songs. Cher included it in her 2018 ABBA covers album, Dancing Queen, and newer artists like Ava Max and Rina Sawayama have also sampled it.

ABBA recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of their self-titled album with a special reissue. This album features classics like “Mamma Mia” and “SOS.” You can grab ABBA’s music on vinyl or CD now!
