AC/DC: Lineup Change for Their Power Trip Performance

AC/DC is slated for next month’s Power Trip event, but their lineup will have a small but significant shake-up.

The band shared via social media, “PWR UP for Power Trip! Listen to the rehearsal of the boys powering up with Cliff Williams, who’s coming out of retirement for the festival and Matt Laug on drums.”

While many fans were happy to hear that Williams would be coming out of retirement to play bass at the show, they were also bummed that drummer Phil Rudd would not be there. One fan wrote, “I’m absolutely gutted to see/hear Phil isn’t there. I thought we were going to get a proper chance to see the boys together one last time. In fact, gutted doesn’t even come close to expressing my disappointment.”

AC/DC has historically been a band that has played things close to the vest. As expected, there’s been no elaboration about why Rudd isn’t appearing at Power Trip, despite playing on the band’s 2020 studio album Power Up. Rudd has also not given any personal statement about why he’s not performing at Power Trip.

As previously reported, Power Trip is slated for October 6-8 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif. The lineup is as follows:

When first announced, Ozzy Osbourne was part of the bill. Unfortunately, Ozzy backed out of the event in July, saying, in part, “Unfortunately, my body is telling me that I’m just not ready yet and I am much too proud to have the first show that I do in nearly five years be half-assed.” The day after The Prince of Darkness’ announcement, Judas Priest was confirmed to fill in.
