The 16-year-old Thai guitarist earned the AGT title shortly before securing the opening slot for the metal band’s Singapore show.
Sixteen-year-old guitarist and vocalist Nene Royal, whose real name is Rattikarn Amloy, will open for American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Oct. 13. Announced by promoter Midas Promotions, the performance comes shortly after the Phuket native became the first Thai contestant to win America’s Got Talent on Sept. 23, securing the competition’s $1 million grand prize. The event marks Avenged Sevenfold’s first show in Singapore in 11 years as part of an Asian tour with additional stops in Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, and Bangkok.
Royal began playing guitar at age seven, learning largely through online videos before performing at the Naka Weekend Market in Phuket. During her television run, judge Mel B used the Live Golden Buzzer to send the teen straight to the finals following her rendition of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun.” Royal ultimately won the grand finale after performing “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes, earning praise from Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul for bringing honor to her home country.
