Andrea Bocelli’s ‘Il Mare Calmo Della Sera’ Set To Make Vinyl Debut Tim Peacock

Andrea Bocelli’s acclaimed debut album Il Mare Calmo Della Sera is set to make its vinyl debut on Friday, October 4.

Originally only released in Italy by Polygram International in 1994, Bocelli’s debut album features 13 songs that would go one to become classics within Bocelli’s repertoire including the title track, “Caruso,” “Ave Maria,” and “La Fleur Que Tu M’avais Jetee.”

The album’s titular song “Il mare calmo della sera” (Italian for ‘The calm evening sea’) was written by Zucchero Fornaciari, Gian Pietro Felisatti and Gloria Nuti, for Andrea Bocelli. It ranks among his most popular and well-known songs.

The chorus opening phrase is virtually the same as the chorus opening phrase in “She Believes in Me”, the title of a song recorded by American country music singer Kenny Rogers released in April 1979 as the second single from his album The Gambler. Bocelli also recorded a Spanish-language version of the song, titled “El silencio de la espera”, which peaked at number one in Panama. This version appeared on the Spanish edition of Romanza in 1997.

Bocelli initially released Il mare calmo della sera after winning the Newcomers section of the 1994 Sanremo Music Festival with the song of the same name. Though only afforded a domestic release at first, the album later enjoyed success in Europe, selling well in France and Germany and receiving a gold disc in the Netherlands.

The album was succeeded by the release of Bocelli in 1995, his well-received second pop album, then by Romanza in 1997. Between the releases of Bocelli and Romanza, Viaggio Italiano, his first classical album, was released.
