GRAMMY-winning producer Andrew Watt spoke with Ozzy Osbourne just hours before his death in July. Their last conversation felt normal, and no one expected what would happen next. “Everything was normal, and the next day the news was just a giant shock,” Watt said. For six and a half years, Watt and Ozzy connected daily while working on the singer’s final albums. Their creative journey began with 2020’s *Ordinary Man* and peaked with 2022’s *Patient Number 9*. These albums brought them closer together, and Ozzy had a unique ability to sense things. “He could see you in your good, your bad, and just in a way that you were — he was witchy like that. He often knew things that were gonna happen before they happened,” Watt shared.
Watt attended Ozzy’s final show, *Back to the Beginning*, in Birmingham on July 5. “The experience at the show was unbelievable. It felt like a heavy metal summer camp,” he said. Old friends reunited that night, including guitarist Jake E. Lee, who hadn’t seen Ozzy in 30 years. The night before the show, Watt enjoyed a curry with Sharon Osbourne and brought one back for Ozzy. “We hung out for a long time and talked,” he added.
Sadly, Ozzy passed away from a heart attack on July 22. Close friends, including Elton John and members of Metallica, gathered at his UK estate for a private farewell. A BBC documentary titled *Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home*, about his final days, is set to be released soon. In the meantime, Judas Priest has released a charity version of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” featuring Ozzy’s voice.
