Angels & Airwaves’ ‘I-Empire’ To Be Released Via Interscope Vinyl Collective

Tom DeLonge (of blink-182) and his band, Angels & Airwaves, will release their 2007 second studio album, I-Empire, as part of Interscope’s Vinyl Collective subscription club.

The album will be released on 2LP on Opaque Black and Blue Mix Vinyl and will include the bonus track, “Everything’s Magic (Acoustic Version),” alongside alternative cover art.

Other features include custom printed sleeves, an exclusive new center label design, and a bonus four-pack of I-Empire photo cards. Each record will be individually numbered and the release is limited to 3,000 copies globally.

DeLonge had long established himself as rock royalty by the mid-2000s. But the restlessly ambitious musician expanded his musical vision further with Angels & Airwaves, which augmented blink-182’s punchy anthems with deeper lyrics and a vastly expanded sonic palette.

Pulling more from Radiohead and Pink Floyd than blink-182 influences like the Descendants, I-Empire, the group’s 2007 second album, is, as Billboard notes, “a sweeping conceptual piece with a message as big as its sound and just a bit more enigmatic.”

Led by the shimmering guitars of lead single (and fan fave) “Everything’s Magic,” the album imbues its driving rock ambitions with glints of techno and industrial, as DeLonge’s lyrics veer more philosophical and personal. “A rock & roll band has to earn every piece of its credibility and every fan that it has,” DeLonge once said of Angels & Airwaves. On I-Empire, mission accomplished and then some.
