Anthrax is hitting the road for four shows across Australia and will release a new studio album in May. The thrash metal legends will kick off their tour on March 23 in Brisbane.
Guitarist Scott Ian recently confirmed that the band has finished their upcoming album. “We finished an album. It’s done, and it’s coming out soon,” he shared. Fans can expect an announcement shortly. The album will be released in North America through Megaforce and in Europe via Nuclear Blast. Mixing and some recording took place at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in California. The band teamed up again with producer Jay Ruston, who worked on their previous albums, “For All Kings” and “Worship Music.”
Australian fans might get a sneak peek of the new material during the shows. Ian hinted that concertgoers will hear some fresh tracks when they visit at the end of the month. The setlist will feature a mix of classic hits and deeper cuts, with Ian mentioning that they balance around a dozen fan favorites with some rotating selections.
Anthrax was formed on July 18, 1981, by Ian and bassist Dan Lilker in Queens, New York. They were one of the first thrash metal bands to emerge from the East Coast and are recognized as pioneers in the genre alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth. The band has released 11 studio albums and received six GRAMMY nominations, performing thousands of shows worldwide since 1984.
The tour will start at Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane, followed by shows at Hindley Street Music Hall in Adelaide on March 25 and Festival Hall in Melbourne on March 26. The run will wrap up on March 28 at Enmore Theatre in Sydney. Ticket details are available online.
