Ariana Grande has shared a new remix of her eternal sunshine track “the boy is mine,” featuring Brandy and Monica. The two R&B icons, who also appear alongside Grande in a new visual, are both known for their 1998 collaboration of the same name, which spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 upon its release.
Grande first announced the remix earlier this week, after Brandy and Monica’s cameos alongside Grande and Penn Badgley in “the boy is mine” music video sparked speculation. “i ……… cannot believe this is real (i don’t know if i will even long after it’s out),” Grande captioned a teaser for the remix on Instagram, continuing: “my deepest and sincerest thank you to Brandy and Monica, not only for joining me for this moment, but for your generosity, your kindness, and for the countless ways in which you have inspired me. it is near impossible to say how much this means to me. this is in celebration of you both and the impact that you have had on every vocalist, vocal producer, musician, artist that is creating today.”
eternal sunshine, Grande’s seventh studio album and her first since 2020’s Positions, was released by Republic Records on March 8. Grande shared “the boy is mine” separately with a new video nearly a month after the album dropped, following previous singles “yes, and” and “we can’t be friends (wait for your love).” Later this year, she will star as Glinda opposite Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba in the first installment of Jon M. Chu’s two-part Wicked film, due out in December.
Brandy, who released her last record B7 in 2020, will soon star in the horror film The Front Room, while Monica recently appeared on Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 deluxe edition. In 2022, Monica charted her first Top 40 hit in three years with the Ty Dolla $ign collaboration “Friends.”
