Poppy’s band played an instrumental set at Upheaval Festival in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Friday after Poppy couldn’t perform. She later said on Instagram Stories that wildfires in Canada made the air dangerous. “Due to ‘hazardous’ AQI reaching 350+ around our set time I was unable to join my band on stage,” she wrote, adding she couldn’t breathe in those conditions. AQI stands for air quality index; 350+ is considered a health emergency. Poppy thanked fans who stayed despite the smoke. Other outdoor shows, including concerts by The Black Keys and Creed, were also affected by the poor air.
