Beartooth Unveils New Song ‘Free’ During Tour Kickoff, Single Set to Release on February 27

Beartooth is set to release their new song “Free” this Friday, February 27. Fans got a sneak peek of the track during the band’s performance at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on Sunday night, kicking off their North American tour with Bad Omens. Video clips from the concert quickly spread online after the show on February 22. This will be their first new music since collaborating with Tom Morello in 2025.

Caleb Shomo founded Beartooth over a decade ago. He is the lead vocalist and plays multiple instruments. Their debut album, Disgusting, was released in 2014 and received a strong response from rock fans. Performing at the Vans Warped Tour helped them gain a loyal following.

Since then, they have released four more albums: Aggressive in 2016, Disease in 2018, Below in 2021, and The Surface in 2023. With each album, Shomo has pushed his creative boundaries. The Surface reached No. 1 on three charts: Billboard Hard Rock Albums, Luminate Alternative Albums, and Luminate Record Label Independent Current Albums. It also landed at No. 5 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales. The single “I Was Alive” topped both Billboard Mainstream Airplay and the U.S. Mediabase Active Rock radio chart, marking their first No. 1 in that format.

In September 2024, Red Bull Records released The Surface (Deluxe Edition), featuring a new song and reworked mixes along with live recordings from a show in Sacramento.

Shomo mentioned in a 2023 interview that The Surface marked the end of their first era. He described their five albums as a “run-on sentence.” Now, he’s excited for what’s next. “I think that’s gonna be really fg exciting,” he said about the future of Beartooth.
