Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong has a new signature amp with Marshall. The Billie Joe Armstrong 1959BJA was previewed during Green Day’s Super Bowl 60 performance in February. It comes in a baby-blue finish inspired by Armstrong’s first guitar, nicknamed Blue.
The amp includes a custom “Dookie Mod” that aims to recreate the tone from Green Day’s 1994 breakout album, Dookie. Marshall says the amp blends classic plexi tone with modern features for more gain, tighter lows and a saturated punch suited to today’s stages.
Marshall’s marketing director, Steph Carter, says Billie Joe’s guitar sound is instantly recognizable and that the amp captures his punch, aggression and clarity. Armstrong says he’s thrilled to have his own Marshall amp and told fans to “turn it the f* up!!”
The amp ships July 21. Marshall will mark the release with a performance by Armstrong’s side project, The Coverups, at the Roxy in Los Angeles on July 20.
Green Day is also gearing up to release their new movie, NIMRODS, in theaters on Aug. 14. The movie soundtrack arrives July 31.
