Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day Makes Autistic Teen’s Dream Come True Onstage at Riot Fest

A special moment happened at Chicago’s Riot Fest when Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day noticed a teen in the crowd. Bobbi Dunn Cantrell and her son Argyle traveled from Indiana to Douglass Park for the festival. Argyle, who just turned 16, held a sign that read: “Hi! It’s my 16th birthday! I’m autistic and Green Day is my special interest. Can I come on stage and sing ‘Know Your Enemy?’”

While Bobbi took a quick bathroom break, she lost sight of Argyle. “I was in panic mode all day because we got separated,” she shared on Instagram. Argyle had been waiting by the stage since noon.

During the show, Armstrong paused “Know Your Enemy” because he was feeling unwell. “I have a really bad chest cold right now. So I need a volunteer. Who knows the lyrics to this song?” he asked the crowd. His eyes landed on Argyle’s sign, and up he went on stage. Without hesitation, Argyle sang every word of the song from Green Day’s 2009 album, *21st Century Breakdown*. Bobbi couldn’t believe her eyes. “As soon as I saw him on stage, I screamed ‘OMG THAT’S MY KID!’ What an amazing night! I am a new fan forever,” she wrote.

Later, Argyle shared photos of his unforgettable moment online, showing off his sign and clips of his performance. “I’m so insanely grateful,” he posted.

Green Day fans can catch the band next at the Oceans Calling Festival in Ocean City on September 26, followed by Eddie Vedder’s Ohana Festival in Dana Point on September 28. Don’t miss out on the chance to see them live!
