Black Sabbath to Release Super Deluxe Edition of ‘Vol. 4’

Black Sabbath is paying tribute to their 1972 release Vol 4 with a new, Super Deluxe Edition of the popular record.

Featuring classic Sabbath songs such as “Supernaut,” “Changes,” and “Snowblind,” the record reached the Top 10 on the Albums Chart in the U.K. and Top 20 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S., eventually being certified platinum by the RIAA.

The Super Deluxe Edition features a newly remastered version of the original album, as well as 20 unreleased studio and live recordings, plus booklets featuring liner notes with band quotes, rare photos and a poster with previously unpublished early artwork.

Thanks to a fresh remastering job, Vol 4‘s “ambitious arrangements and complex grooves have never sounded more inspired and menacing,” according to a statement.

The package also features 11 additional studio recordings, alternative takes, false starts and snippets of studio dialogue. “These tracks transport listeners into the studio with the band and offer some insight into the making of the album,” states the release.

The package closes out with live recordings that are representative of the set lists from Black Sabbath’s tour for Vol 4. The live audio, recorded in March 1973, was originally set to be released as a live album years ago, but never quite made it to the public. The live audio has been newly mixed by Richard Digby Smith using the original 16-track analog tapes.
