Originally released on October 4, 1999, Hooray For Boobies topped charts in Germany, Austria, and Australia. In the band’s native United States, it made it to number 14 on the Billboard 200, and was certified platinum in 2000. Bloodhound Gang supported the album with four singles: “Along Comes Mary,” “The Bad Touch,” “The Ballad of Chasey Lane,” “Mope,” and “The Inevitable Return of the Great White Dope.” “The Bad Touch,” in particular, brought the group international notoriety, appearing on 20 charts worldwide and topping 5 of them.

Hooray For Boobies is especially notable as a showcase for Bloodhound Gang’s sense of humor. Album cut “Right Turn Clyde,” for example, parodies Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick In The Wall (Pt. 2)”. This track initially proved controversial with Pink Floyd’s lawyers, but Roger Waters himself eventually gave the band permission to use their song as an interpolation. Hooray For Boobies also includes three non-strictly-musical sketches that serve as humorous breaks between songs. The final one of the bunch, “The Ten Coolest Things About New Jersey,” is just ten seconds of silence.

While some of the band’s lyrics and songs proved controversial over the years, frontman Jimmy Pop has maintained that the goal was to make people laugh, rather than to really shock. “Really it was more about singing about what made our friends laugh, rather than to be controversial,” Pop told The BBC in 2014 while looking back on the Bloodhound Gang’s career. “It just so happened that’s what made our friends laugh, so we were shocked when people came. So I dunno if there was a direct link between money and poo jokes, but I think there was.”
