Blue October Revisits ‘Hate Me’ 20 Years On With ‘Foiled’ 20th-Anniversary Reissue

Blue October is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their album *Foiled* with a vinyl reissue set to release this Friday. This album features their iconic single “Hate Me,” which has become a defining song for the band. Lead singer Justin Furstenfeld shared that he wrote the song to explain his struggles with relationships and addiction.

The new vinyl includes an acoustic version of “Hate Me,” highlighting Furstenfeld’s poignant lyrics. He drew inspiration from Johnny Cash’s cover of “Hurt,” focusing on the emotional weight of the words. Furstenfeld mentioned that country music has always influenced him, especially the darker themes, as he grew up listening to it with his dad.

He describes the acoustic version of “Hate Me” as a song you might hear in a bar, prompting listeners to reflect and take a moment to relax. Blue October will also be performing *Foiled* in its entirety during a U.S. tour starting in October.
