Bob Marley’s ‘Turn Your Lights Down Low’ Gets Official YouTube Release

The video for Bob Marley’s “Turn Your Lights Down Low,” featuring Lauryn Hill, has received an official YouTube release. The 1999 single, originally shared as a solo B-side on Bob Marley and the Wailers’ 1977 album Exodus.

The Lauryn Hill version of ‘Turn Your Lights Down Low” first appeared on the compilation Chant Down Babylon, which collected remixes and covers of Marley’s essential songs performed by major artists of the time including Rakim, The Roots, MC Lyte, and Hill. Marley himself died in May 1981. ’Turn Your Lights Down Low” peaked at No. 1 on the U.K. R&B Charts, and was nominated for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals at the 2001 Grammy Awards. The music video for the track was filmed onsite in Marley’s home country Jamaica, and also featured his son Rohan Marley.

Lauryn Hill continues to tour and make music today. Last month, Apple Music named her record The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill the greatest album of all time, ranking it No. 1 on their 100 Best Albums list. In response to the honor, Hill stated: “This is my award, but it’s a rich, deep narrative, and involves so many people, and so much sacrifice, and so much time, and so much collective love.”

As for Bob Marley, the limited edition of his classic album Exodus is out now. The vinyl edition features the original cover design of the album created by longtime Marley family friend, creative designer, and lighting director Neville Garrick.
