Afrika Bambaataa, a foundational figure in the birth of hip-hop, died in Pennsylvania yesterday, April 9, at the age of 68. His lawyer confirmed that the cause of death was prostate cancer. Born Lance Taylor in the South Bronx, Bambaataa became a towering figure in the 1970s and 80s, helping to shape the burgeoning electro-funk and hip-hop movements. He is most widely recognized for his 1982 masterpiece "Planet Rock" and for using his influence to resolve local gang conflicts through the formation of the Universal Zulu Nation art collective.

Bambaataa’s legacy is as influential as it is complex. While credited with introducing beat breaks and the Roland TR-808 drum machine to the genre, his later years were marred by numerous allegations of sexual abuse dating back to the 1980s. Despite his steadfast denials, these accusations led to a public apology from the Universal Zulu Nation in 2016. Nevertheless, his impact on global music culture remains undeniable, with his talent agency noting that "everything hip hop is today, it is because of him."

Evanescence has officially confirmed that their highly anticipated sixth studio album, titled Sanctuary, will be released on June 5, 2026, through BMG. The announcement comes after years of work, with the band sharing that they are "so damn proud of every second" of the new record. Accompanying the news is the debut of the driving new single "Who Will You Follow," which was co-produced by Zakk Cervini and former Bring Me The Horizon member Jordan Fish.

The 12-track album also includes the previously released single "Afterlife," which was featured in Netflix’s Devil May Cry anime adaptation. To support the release, Amy Lee and company have mapped out an extensive 2026 world tour. The North American leg kicks off in June with support from Spiritbox and Nova Twins, including stops in Nashville, Camden, and Toronto, before the band heads to the UK and Europe this fall with Poppy, K.Flay, and others.

wisted Sister has officially announced their first string of performances featuring Sebastian Bach as their new lead singer. The move comes after Dee Snider stepped down from the band’s 50th-anniversary reunion plans due to health concerns, though he has reportedly given Bach his full blessing to take over the role. The new-look lineup, which includes classic members Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda, is scheduled to kick off their run on September 4 at the Alaska State Fair.

The initial itinerary includes four North American stops, hitting Oklahoma in mid-September before wrapping up with two Canadian dates in early October. Jack White has officially announced an extensive North American headline tour for 2026, marking his return to major stages following his surprise addition to the Coachella lineup. The 35-date trek is split into two legs, starting on July 10 at The Anthem in Washington, DC. The first leg will see White hit cities like Brooklyn, Toronto, Boston, and Chicago before he heads overseas for a run of UK and European festivals throughout August and September.
