Brian Burkheiser, the former vocalist of I Prevail, believes that Taylor Swift has “probably” heard their cover of her hit song “Blank Space.” I Prevail gained popularity in 2014 with their metalcore version of the track from Swift’s 1989 album. Burkheiser shared his thoughts, saying, “I gotta imagine [Swift] at least jammed it once or twice throughout her career.” He admits he has always wondered if she has listened to it, but there’s no proof.
In a full-circle moment, Burkheiser recently covered another Swift song, “Look What You Made Me Do,” to kick off his solo project, Scatterbrain, after leaving I Prevail in 2025. He acknowledged that some might question his choice to cover Swift again, but he feels a deep connection to that moment in his life. “That cover blew up and changed the course of my entire life,” he explained.
Burkheiser chose to release “Look What You Made Me Do” as his first Scatterbrain song because he was unable to put out original music at the time due to a dispute with I Prevail. He wanted to make a statement with this cover. “It was a way for me to make art,” he said. “It’s about taking back my life.” Since then, he has also released two original songs, “Phases” and “Fast Lane.
