The actress revealed she was diagnosed with a stage 2 glioma following a scan and later required a second procedure for an infection.
Actress Busy Philipps revealed in an interview with People that she recently underwent surgery to remove a 2.8 cm by 1.8 cm brain tumor on her right frontal lobe. The tumor was discovered after a full-body scan in February 2026, which Philipps pursued after seeking a second opinion from a family doctor. Following a consultation with her daughter’s neurologist, Dr. Orrin Devinsky, and surgeon Dr. Golfinos, the tumor was completely removed and identified as a stage 2 glioma. Philipps stated she does not currently require chemotherapy or radiation, though she will undergo routine MRI scans every three months for the next two years.
Six weeks after her initial brain surgery, Philipps had to undergo a second procedure for surgical incision debridement after doctors discovered two forms of staphylococcus infection. Following 29 days on a high dose of oral antibiotics, she confirmed she has healed from the infection and is encouraging others to seek information and second opinions regarding their health.
