Cage the Elephant Earns 14th Billboard Alternative Airplay No. 1 With ‘Beaches in Tennessee’

The single ties the band with Linkin Park and Twenty One Pilots for the second-most leaders in the chart’s history.

Cage the Elephant has secured its 14th No. 1 song on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart with “Beaches in Tennessee.” The milestone ties the group with Linkin Park and Twenty One Pilots for the second-most No. 1s in the chart’s 38-year history, behind the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who hold the record with 15. The achievement marks three consecutive calendar years with a No. 1 single for the band, following “Metaverse” in 2025, as well as “Rainbow” and “Neon Pill” in 2024. The song is also the band’s first release under Big Loud Rock after leaving RCA Records in July.

Lead singer Matt Shultz shared that the track offers a lighthearted, fictionalized reflection on his real-life mental health struggles and a prior nearly three-month hospitalization. “Beaches in Tennessee” is set to appear on Cage the Elephant’s upcoming seventh studio album, which currently lacks an official title and release date. The group also recently released the track “Dying in Reverse” for the EA SPORTS FC 27 soundtrack, and is scheduled to launch a European tour next year alongside an official NFL halftime performance at the Patriots vs. Lions game in Munich, Germany.
