Calibre 50 Release New Record ‘El Sueño Americano’

The Mexican band Calibre 50 have released a new record titled El Sueño Americano, or The American Dream. The album features four new songs “50 y pico,” a cumbia duet with El Coyote, the ballad “La forma en que me miras,” “Los Principios un tesoro,” and the title track.

El Sueño Americano is produced by Jesús Tirado and includes three covers: “Si No Te Hubieras Ido,” composed and performed by Marco Antonio Solís, “Yo Te Amo” by Estefano Delgado and performed by Chayanne and “El Sandwich” by Juan Manuel Zamudio Lizárraga, made a hit by Banda Fresa.

The title track explores the sacrifices and struggles of migrants to the United States, hard work driven by the desire to support their families. The song was inspired by Jesús Antonio Inzunza Montoya and Juan Pablo Zazueta and arrives with a music video illustrating long days of laboring made worthwhile by family and community. Calibre 50 have written several songs exploring social themes, like last year’s “El Inmigrante” and 2017’s “Corrido De Juanito.”

In 2022, Calibre 50 founding member Edén Muñoz left the group to pursue a solo career. The band held open auditions for a replacement and chose Tony Elizondo. Though Calibre 50 have continued to experience lineup changes, the group has continued to find success with their norteño sound.

Earlier this year, the group released Las Culebras. That record features the single “El Amor De Mi Vida” which became the group’s 26th No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart. Previously, “Días Buenos, Días Malos” off the 2023 record Tiempo Al Tiempo, was the band’s 25th song to achieve the milestone.
