Carole King Reacts to Being Inducted into the Rock Hall as a Solo Artist

Carole King issued a brief statement in response to the news she will be inducted as part of the 2021 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

King wrote via Twitter, “I wanted to be a songwriter so I could meet all the great artists and they would know who I was. I thought being inducted into the Rock Hall as a songwriter with Gerry Goffin was the pinnacle. Until now. Thank you for ALSO inducting me as an artist.”

King and Goffin received the Ahmet Ertegun Award in 1990. King was also previously nominated as a solo artist back in 1989.

King and fellow 2021 Rock Hall inductee Tina Turner will become the second and third woman, respectively, to be Rock Hall double-inductees. Stevie Nicks became the first woman to be a Rock Hall double-inductee in 2019 when she was recognized for her solo work. She was previously inducted as a member of Fleetwood Mac in 1998.

As previously reported, the Rock Hall is planning on an in-person induction ceremony with fans taking place on Saturday, October 30 at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse arena in Cleveland. Tickets are expected to go on sale in July. The 2021 Induction Ceremony will air on HBO and stream on HBO Max at a later date.
