Chad Kroeger, unlike Bruce Dickinson, doesn’t care if you smoke weed at rock shows. In fact, he loves it!

The topic of smoking at rock shows came up during Kroeger’s recent appearance on Loudwire Nights. The Nickelback frontman said with a laugh regarding smelling weed during a show, “No, I usually say, ‘Blow it this way.’”

He added, “You can see, if I’m walking across the stage and I’ve got the microphone, I turn around and go, ‘Whoa, something smells really good right around here!’ I mean yeah, that’s what rock concerts are supposed to be. You’re supposed to get a little bit of that.”

Kroeger went on to mention weed isn’t even the worst smell at a rock show saying, “We’ve shot off so much pyro, and the chemicals I’ve inhaled from that… Oof. That’s far worse than somebody exhaling a little bit of pot smoke toward me, that’s not a big deal. It’s only gonna make the show better!”

The whole topic of pot at rock shows entered the rock discourse last month after video surfaced of Bruce Dickinson going off on fans smoking weed at an Iron Maiden show. The clip below was shot at a September 21 gig in Anaheim, Calif. Dickinson addresses the crowd, particularly the pit in front of him, saying, “I don’t know what it is. There’s so many f—in people smoking so much f—ing dope down here, I’m amazed you can even see.”

He continues, “Poor old Steve [Harris]. I don’t know if you know, but he absolutely f—ing hates marijuana and the smell of it, alright? So, when he’s trying to play bass, it f—s him up. It f—s me up. I’m a singer, alright? So duh. I would just ask for a tiny bit of respect – if you want to go get completely stoned out of your f—ing mind, go out the back and do it. Alright? Otherwise you’re going to end up like this f—ing knucklehead here going ‘uhhhh.’”

Nickelback is a polarizing band that often gets a lot of hate. However, when you sell 50 million albums worldwide, clearly plenty of people love the Canadian rock band. After all, you don’t sell that many albums by accident.

Forming in 1995, Nickelback has maintained the same lineup since 2005: Chad Kroeger (lead singer/guitarist), Ryan Peake (guitarist/backing vocalist/keyboardist), Mike Kroeger (bassist) and Daniel Adair (drummer/percussion/backing vocalist.) In its history, Nickelback has scored seven top-ten albums in the United States with their fifth studio album, 2005’s All The Right Reasons, landing at number one on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. On top of that, the band has also had six top-10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, with 2001’s “How You Remind Me” topping that chart.

If you have a Nickelback fan in your life, consider gifting them one of these six items. It’ll make you their “Hero.” (Yes, we know “Hero” is actually a Chad Kroeger song, but you try coming up with fun Nickelback puns!)
