Seven-time GRAMMY Award-winner Charles Kelley has been tapped by ESPN for his rendition of the iconic track “Georgia On My Mind,” to be used in the official nationwide commercial leading into the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club.
The track, which debuted yesterday, finds the Augusta, GA, native and member of the multi-platinum trio Lady A bringing an authentic tie to the Masters anthem tradition as he captures the warmth and southern charm that highlights the prestige of one of the world’s most notorious and loved tournaments.
“Growing up in Augusta I have been going to the Masters for as long as I can remember, so this was a special full-circle moment for me,” Kelley said. “No one can sing this song like Ray Charles, but I hope I did him justice and I can’t wait to get back home and experience the Masters in-person.”
Along with his success as part of Lady A, Charles Kelley earned a GRAMMY Awards nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance from his solo debut album, The Driver. As a co-writer on many chart-topping Lady A hits, including the 9x platinum hit “Need You Now,” Kelley has also penned No.1 hits by Luke Bryan, Darius Rucker, Brett Young and Russell Dickerson.
Lady A have long been a model of mainstream success. Their 11 No.1s, 18 million albums sold, 34 million tracks, five billion digital streams, and a global touring footprint prove the point. With a renewed sense of inner strength and hope, the band recently released their eighth studio album What A Song Can Do (BMLG Records).
Working again with producer Dann Huff, the 14 tracks reinvigorate the band’s signature sound and electrifying harmonies that have dominated charts for more than a decade. They have earned CMA Awards Vocal Group of the Yeartrophies three years in a row and countless other honors including five GRAMMY Awards, Billboard Music Awards, People’s Choice Awards, Teen Choice Awards, a Tony Award nod and were recently inducted as members of the Grand Ole Opry.
