Crayola just announced some exciting news: the world’s favorite crayon color has been chosen! After polling people in 183 countries, they revealed that Cerulean blue is the top pick. Yes, the same shade that Meryl Streep famously calls out in The Devil Wears Prada.
Coming in second is Robin’s Egg Blue, followed by Wisteria Purple. If you picture a handful of childhood crayons, these colors scream late-’80s Miami vibes, perfect for a stylish condo with a pink flamingo lamp. It’s all about that “Golden Girls chic.”
Now, what about the earthy tones like Burnt Sienna or Raw Umber? Unfortunately, they didn’t even make the top three. That’s a shame because Burnt Sienna is a classic, representing school art projects and dog fur. It deserved better!
Crayola also looked at preferences by generation. Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X all love Cerulean. Baby Boomers chose Purple Heart, while today’s kids are into Sky Blue. Fun fact: Blue has been a favorite for decades. In 1993, it was already number one, and by 2000, six shades of blue were in the Top 10.
So, while blue clearly rules the crayon box, we want to give a shoutout to Burnt Sienna. You may not be the favorite, but you’re the unsung hero of every third-grade art project. Keep shining, you beautiful brownish-orange masterpiece!
