Cynthia Erivo Announces New Album, ‘I Forgive You’

Cynthia Erivo has announced a new album, I Forgive You. The Grammy, Tony and Emmy-award winning actor’s next solo record is due out on June 6th—a lead single “Worst Of Me,” has just been released.

The new song follows last month’s “Replay,” the album’s lead single. She co-wrote that track with Justin Tranter, who has worked with the likes of Selena Gomez, Chappell Roan and Lady Gaga. I Forgive You marks Erivo’s sophomore album—she released her debut record of original music, Ch. 1 Vs. 1, on Verve Records in 2021. She co-wrote every song on the 12-track record, and focused on themes of Black queer love, intimacy and heartbreak.

Erivo’s past year has largely been defined by her star turn as Elphaba in Jon M. Chu’s blockbuster movie-musical Wicked. The film was nominated for multiple awards at this year’s Oscars—Erivo was nominated for Best Actress, and performed at the ceremony alongside co-star Ariana Grande. The second chapter of the two-part film, Wicked: For Good, arrives this December. Erivo also recently confirmed that she’ll appear as Jesus this summer in a new production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl.

In February, it was announced that Erivo would host the 2025 Tony Awards, which will be broadcast from New York’s Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 8th. In a statement shared to Billboard at the time, she shared: “I am looking forward to ushering the theater community at large through a night that celebrates the wonderful performances we have witnessed throughout the year. I hope I can rise to the occasion.”
