Composer Danny Elfman has announced that he will be reprising his role as the voice of Jack Skellington at The Nightmare Before Christmas live-to-film concert later this year. The event will take place in on October 29 at Banc of California Stadium as the first music event the venue has ever held.
Tickets for Disney’s Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Live-to-Film Concert Experience will be available starting May 14 via Ticketmaster. Elfman’s participation marks the first time the original Nightmare Before Christmas composer will appear in the event in three years.
In a statement, Elfman shared: “Jack Is Back! I was so sorry to have missed last Halloween. (We all know why). BUT- I’m not skipping this year. Jack wants to get back on stage. I can’t wait to see you all.”
Elfman will star in the production alongside currently unannounced special guests and original vocalists. The cast will perform the music of the film in sync with the visuals alongside a choir and complete orchestra that will be playing the film’s score and songs live at the event.
Conductor John Mauceri will lead the full orchestra and choir. The concert itself will be produced by Laura Engel, Richard Kraft, Tim Fox and Alison Ahart Williams.
Released in 1993, The Nightmare Before Christmas has become a staple Halloween film thanks, in large part, to its timeless soundtrack and score. Speaking of creating the music for the film alongside director and writer Tim Burton, Elfman has said: “We felt these songs should try to find a kind of timeless place that’s not contemporary. My influences were going from Kurt Weill to Gilbert And Sullivan to early Rodgers And Hammerstein.”
The Nightmare Before Christmas Live-to-Film Concert Experience is an opportune return to live music for families and will feature a costume contest and trick-or-treating for all ages.
