Dave Grohl Releases Cover Song Recording with His Daughter, Violet

Dave Grohl released a cover song recording with his daughter, Violet, and the story behind the recording is an incredible tale of punk rock family heritage joy.

Embedded below is the Grohl father/daughter cover of “Nausea” by legendary LA punk band X. The track is featured on the band’s 1980 debut album Los Angeles.

Violet Grohl & Dave Grohl – Nausea

From the upcoming WHAT DRIVES US documentary, Dave and Violet Grohl release their first collaboration “Nausea” – a tribute to X and the Bonebrake heritage.Li…

So, why did Dave pick this song to record with his daughter? He recounts the story in detail on his Instagram (which you should read in full, because it’s really interesting) but it boils down to this: Dave discovered via his grandmother, whose maiden name is Bonebrake, that he is actually a distant cousin of X drummer D.J. Bonebrake. Following a screening of his new documentary What Drives Us, he got the idea to record “Nausea” with Violet.

“I wanted to record a song that would not only pay tribute to the people and music that influenced me to become a musician, but also to pay tribute to my long family history,” writes Grohl. “So, what better song than an X song? And what better person to sing it than my daughter, Violet Grohl.”

Dave and Violet’s version of “Nausea” is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms now.
