Deftones Receives GRAMMY Nomination as ‘Private Music’ Reigns at the Top of Rock Charts in 2025

The band has received a GRAMMY nomination for Best Rock Album for their tenth studio release, *Private Music*. This album has topped rock charts around the world and made it into the Top 5. It’s their fourth nomination since they formed, and they previously won a GRAMMY in 2001 for Best Metal Performance.

*Private Music* marks a significant milestone, arriving three decades after the band started in Northern California. It is also the first album recorded with a sober Chino Moreno and features bassist Fred Sablan as a full member. Producer Nick Raskulinecz worked with the band for the third time on this project.

The band’s recent comeback has been fueled by a resurgence in nu-metal’s popularity, bringing new attention to their early 2000s hits. Songs like “,” “,” and “” have become viral sensations on social media.

Moreno shared that the band has always aimed to avoid being pigeonholed. “We’ve always made a constant decision to not date ourselves with the music we make… we just wanted to have our own identity,” he said. His love for bands like Depeche Mode, the Cure, and the Smiths has helped shape their unique alt-metal sound since their debut album, *Adrenaline*, was released in 1995.

This past November, the band hosted their sixth Día de los Deftones festival. Moreno described it as “making a mixtape, but with live groups, bringing different genres together.” This year’s lineup included Clipse, Rico Nasty, Deafheaven, and more. Fans are excited to see what’s next for the band!
