Dolly Parton Shares Duet with Stevie Nicks Was Meant for Fleetwood Mac

Dolly Parton releases her highly-anticipated rock album, Rockstar, on Nov. 17. The album features some of the biggest names in rock, including Stevie Nicks.

Parton and Nicks recorded an original track for the album titled “What Has Rock and Roll Ever Done For You.” The song is one of nine originals on Rockstar. Apparently, the track was written by Nicks years ago and meant to be recorded by Fleetwood Mac.

Parton shared this new information in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Parton relayed that Nicks told her she wrote the song ” … when we were in the heat of our stuff.” She also noted that Nicks said, “It’s a song I love but they didn’t think it was good enough to be on a [Fleetwood Mac] record.”

Interestingly, the song is about someone Nicks was involved with in the rock world, but Parton doesn’t share who it is. All Nicks told Parton was she wanted to record it ” … to commemorate that time in my life and that person.”

Honestly, this song could really be about anybody. Even though the track hasn’t been released yet, many will likely be quick to think the song is about Lindsey Buckingham. Then again, Nicks was also involved with Mick Fleetwood, Don Henley and J.D. Souther in the ’70s. Perhaps, we’ll all just have to wait for the lyrics to see if they offer any clues as to who the song is about.

Dolly Parton Had “The Most Fun” With Stevie Nicks

Parton previously spoke about her collaboration with Nicks in a Hits Daily Double interview published in July. At that time, she says the most fun collaboration she had on Rockstar was with Nicks.

Parton says, “It’s a song she wrote back in the ’70s, I think, and had never put on a record but had always wanted to … We take our music seriously, but that one we could have fun with.”

Parton and Nicks caused quite a stir on social media back in January. Nicks took to Instagram to share a photo of her and Parton sitting at a large mixing board to celebrate Parton’s birthday. Nicks captioned the photo, “Happy birthday to my new friend, Dolly! Had so much fun singing with you!”

The comment section blew up with fans sharing their adoration for the photo. One fan commented simply, “My moms [crying emoji.]” Another fan wrote, “This is the hair I aspire to.” Perhaps the funniest comment was, “Pissing my f—ing pants. Best collab since Mary and the immaculate conception.”

Nicks, of course, is one of many rockers appearing on Rockstar. Keep scrolling to see who’s all confirmed.
