Dua Lipa Surprises Fans by Inviting Billie Joe Armstrong on Stage for a Special Green Day Duet at San Francisco Concert

Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism Tour had an unforgettable moment at the Chase Center in San Francisco on October 12. The pop star surprised fans by bringing out Billie Joe Armstrong, the lead singer of Green Day, to perform their 2004 hit “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” This emotional song, written about Armstrong’s late father, created a powerful connection between the artists and the audience.

Before introducing Armstrong, Lipa shared her love for local music. “I thought about San Francisco and all the incredible music that has come out of it,” she said. She expressed her admiration for Green Day, highlighting their rawness and authenticity, and how their music resonates with those who sometimes feel out of place.

The concert featured stunning stage production, including confetti and pyrotechnics. A standout moment was when Lipa appeared to levitate over a ring of fire. Her setlist included fan favorites like “Levitating,” “Physical,” and “New Rules,” showcasing her versatility as a performer.

Lipa is known for her clear vocals and authenticity, often avoiding Auto-Tune to highlight her natural talent. She has collaborated with producer Mark Ronson, and fans are excited for what’s next, even without specific details.

The tour, which kicked off in November 2024, will wrap up its U.S. dates in Seattle on October 15 and 16 before heading to South America and Mexico through December. Earlier this year, her performances at Wembley were featured in a short film, giving fans a glimpse into her growing global impact.

Meanwhile, Green Day recently finished their tour and is set to release a 25th-anniversary reissue of their 2000 album Warning on November 14, 2025. Fans are eagerly guessing which artists might join Lipa on stage next.
