If you’re looking for something meaningful this February, check out Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site. All month long, they’re celebrating Finding Justice Month, focusing on how creativity—through words, music, and art—breaks down barriers. Dr. Kerry Sautner, the President & CEO, emphasizes how creative expression can spark important conversations about justice and human dignity.
Throughout February 2026, visitors can enjoy special programs included with general admission. Start with the Finding Justice Self-Guided Tour, where you’ll learn how civil rights leaders and incarcerated individuals fought for equality from behind bars. Don’t miss the Voices of Liberation Video Installation near the rotunda, featuring powerful words from civil rights figures who wrote from confinement.
For a hands-on experience, check out the Chaplain’s Office Murals and Music Mini Tours. These tours explore how art and music provided resistance and reflection for those in prison, available at select times daily.
February also features special events. On February 18, join the Justice 101 online program, where experts discuss how Reconstruction-era decisions shaped today’s incarceration. Then, on February 21, artist Mark Loughney will lead a public tour and do live portrait sketching near his mural, Pyrrhic Defeat: A Visual Study of Mass Incarceration.
Eastern State Penitentiary offers a month filled with history, creativity, and important conversations. It’s a great way to engage with powerful stories while enjoying the arts.
